Thought Traps that Fuel Burnout 

Categories of Negative thought patterns ​:

  • All or nothing thinking​ —> black or white thinking; very drastic way of thinking

  • Blaming​ —> blames one self for any negative events that have occurred

  • Overgeneralizing ​—> makes conclusions based off of a single event or interaction

  • Catastrophizing ​—> exaggerates or minimizes an event or feeling and thinks it is the end of the world

  • Ignoring the positives​—> rejects positive experiences and only dwells on the negative events/ beliefs

  • "Should" statements —> forces oneself and others to commit to a plan/belief and raises the expectations high, setting them up for failure

Examples of Negative thinking​:

  • “If I can’t do everything perfectly, I’m failing.”​

  • "It's my fault that they’re still suffering"​

  • "no one appreciates me" ​

  • "If I don't help, everything will fall apart"​

  • "I don't deserve to take a break"​

  • "I don't know what I am doing so I'm the worstson/daughter ever"​

  • "I shouldn’t need help"​
