Need time off work?
Are you having trouble getting time off work to be a caregiver for your loved ones? Are you worried that you are going to lose your job because you are taking too much time off work? If so, you are not alone.
As someone who started off my journey as an interpreter for my family, I felt myself becoming less and less patient when my family started to depend more on me. I was using up all the time I had off work to fulfill my responsibilities as daughter, and sometimes I would had to request days off without pay. How could I afford this, 5 years down the road or even 10 years down the road when I have a family of my own? How could I get time off, but still maintain my source of income to support both of my family financially?
Unfortunately, there is no straight answer. There are many programs established to reduce the stress level of a family caregiver, but barely any that directly gives us the financial support to care for our family long-term, therefore, to tackle these questions, we have to focus on being strategic and working with what we got.
When I first started working, I was unaware of what employee benefits are, let alone on how to use them. I was always asking my mom why there are so many deductions on my paycheck when I didn’t violate any laws or subscribe to any services. So, to kick this off, click on each of the benefits to learn more about what they offer and how to maximize your time!
